Distracted driving is a leading cause of injuries and death in motor vehicle accidents in British Columbia.  It is illegal to use an electronic device in your hands while driving. As of June 1, 2016 the penalties for drivers in BC if caught for driving while using a smart phone or other electronic device has increased.  As a Doctor would treats and deals with the human side of this matter I would like to add my voice to the growing numbers that say “put it down and just Drive!”  Money, vehicles and other material things that are broken or damaged can be replaced in most cases.  Human beings are quite resilient but I my 14+ years of helping people with motor vehicle accident injuries I have noticed that many are left with some impairments or lingering problems.  More importantly, more and more people report that the person causing the accident either admitted or was found to be distracted.  Our society is becoming addicted to our electronic devices.
